In this first collaboration we refined our focus to the Inuit myth “The Moon Palace” which deals with themes of alienation, loss, and the complex longing for connection. Implementing various modes of story telling from shadow puppetry, to theatrical text, to contemporary dance and live music, this particular distillation is vivid and expansive in its imagery and emotional range. Framing everyday farming practices within a classical dance aesthetic, Hay Rake Ballet pays homage to the inherent beauty and craft of family-scale agricultural practices.
